Pohutukawa flower
The pohutukawa tree is also known as the New Zealand Christmas tree as they start flowering mid December and by Christmas Day they are covered in their wonderful red blooms.
Happy Holiday Season to you all and best wishes from New Zealand.
Goodbye to all you wonderful contributors
I would love the give a huge hug to the people who came across from my other blog, Firebyrd, my personal friends Trousers, Paula and Zan, and long time blog mates, Mel and Nitebyrd and thanks for sticking it out guys.
To the people who joined up at the beginning, Lindy, Diane, Marilyn and Malcom, you are heroes for signing up and hanging about all this time.
To all the other people who make up or have made up the list of contributors for BW thank you for your time and effort. And particularly the people who post every day, even if that's only for a short time, so Kim, Gail, , and April the recent daily gang, thanks a bunch.
A big hug must got to Richard, for his help and support when I've been stuck on a computer issue, for setting up his techno blog that ran alongside BW for a while, and now for his new blog, http://enjoythisimage.blogspot.com which is a wonderful new resource for people who don't want to stop playing!
Just a few completely nerdy facts as I write this;
There have been 3843 blogs posted.
There have been 18465 comments.
The blog has been viewed 102,795 times, from the USA- 33,860; from the UK-25,049; Romania -7,967; NZ-6,545; Italy-4016; France-2,796; Germany-2,168; Qatar-1,838; Malaysia-1,550 and Thailand- 1,303
The single most popular photograph prize goes to Lindy for her recent Wild Clematis, second is also Lindy with Sunset Lago Di Bolsena back in June 2010. Third is Victor's recent sleepy cat, this is taken from the statistic of how many page views they have had.
We have 221 followers.
So all in all a pile of statistics to be proud of!
So not bad for my little whim. I don't know whether I'll ever restart this or whether I'll join Richards new blog, but I have kept all your email addresses and so will try and visit you in your other blogs by and by. Although I am trying to walk away, at least from for a while from jolly blogging and going to try and do some work on my two books that I've got lurking in blogland somewhere, as the damned things aren't writing themselves!
I wish you all good luck and happieness in all your adventures. Pop round and see me sometime.
It's been a blast and I couldn't have done it without you.
Lots of love

Back to where it all began ... for me!
Thank you to everyone for posting such a fantastic array of photographs which not only celebrate our beautiful world, but also say such a lot about the person behind the shot.
Special thanks to Mandy for not only setting up the blog but keeping it fresh and so well maintained. I have enjoyed being a part of this community and am sorry to see it move into retirement. Perhaps like the phoenix it will rise again from the virtual ashes.
I shall miss you all, but perhaps we shall meet again …..
Closing the Gate.

Polesden Lacey, Surrey.
It has been great fun and a reason to keep experimenting with my photography, as a member of this friendly community of photographers. I am bowing out today by closing the gate having shared 300 photos from the Viterbo region of Italy, 50 from China and 10 from the UK. Thanks again Mandy for this wonderful blog which has provided pleasure for its participants and followers with photos of our Beautiful World. I have now thanks to encouragement from friends here set up my own photography blog, hope to see you there.

Two birds; one a favourite, the other I've not posted before
I have really enjoyed meeting all of you and exchanging comments. My only regret is that I only joined last June, such a short time ago.
All good things to everyone! Antoinette
My first, and my last image here...
It's a piece of Iron Pyrites placed on a mouse-mat, and photographed in ambient light... and as you can see I've learned a lot since then, aided by you wonderful people, and all enabled by Mandy and her hard work running this place.
Thank you all - and especially Mandy - for making this such a fun and educational place full of good pictures and good friends.
For those of you who want to stay in touch as a group, you can do so here: http://enjoythisimage.blogspot.com/
Oparara Cave - repost
One of the many caves in the Oparara Basin near Karamea, South Island, New Zealand.
Thank you Mandy for this wonderful blog. I have appreciated being able to share a little of New Zealand with you all, and I would like to thank you all for the beautiful world you have shown me here. It has been so very lovely being part of a warm friendly group and I wish you all well.
First (and Last) Post to Beautiful World
Pileated woodpecker at Mendocino Botanical Gardens
That was a life bird for me--the first time I'd seen one. I've seen many things and places I'd never seen before on Beautiful World. Your comments have been helpful and encouraging. I hope we'll meet again elsewhere on the Internet. Thanks again, Mandy, for all the pleasure and challenge this website has brought to, I believe, all of us who've participated or just looked on.
