A Mutual Tree

  1. That's what we call 'coppicing' over here.

    The tree is harvested by cutting it very close to ground level, and when it grows back it forms a crown just like that which supplies a good crop of smaller wood that can be harvested again and again. It's one of the traditional ways of managing woods and it's making something of a comeback recently as it helps promote a really healthy woodland.

    And yes, the picture is beautiful.
