A Mutual Tree

Near the Cloverdale library

  1. That's what we call 'coppicing' over here.

The tree is harvested by cutting it very close to ground level, and when it grows back it forms a crown just like that which supplies a good crop of smaller wood that can be harvested again and again. It's one of the traditional ways of managing woods and it's making something of a comeback recently as it helps promote a really healthy woodland.

And yes, the picture is beautiful.
